We live by our values

Even though we have been in business for 150 years, we are a go-ahead firm, with a strong culture, young ambitious partners and a close knit feel.  We live by our core values of EXCELLENCE, INNOVATION, TEAMWORK, PASSION, LEADERSHIP AND INTEGRITY.

Choosing us

There are plenty of real reasons for choosing us:

Work with acknowledged experts - Our partners are acknowledged leaders in their field. They're hands-on in the business and you'll have a lot more to do with them on a day to day basis  In fact, one on one partner time is one of the things most valued by our people.

Ongoing feedback - During your first two years with us, you'll be given ongoing feedback about your progress. This is done informally throughout the year, and also at 6 monthly appraisal meetings. These meetings provide dedicated time to discuss your progress and future training requirements with your supervising Partner, and our HR Manager, Kelly Pankhurst.

A supportive culture - We'll give you work that will challenge you, but at the same time, you'll be welcomed and valued for your skills and we'll offer you the support and interaction that comes with being in our highly collaborative and innovative work environment.

What we offer - In addition to stimulating work, regular reviews, constructive supervision, leading technology, internal and external professional development programmes, you'll receive a competitive salary that is formally reviewed every year. Most importantly, we make sure that hard work and results are recognised.  As part of our employment package we also offer:

  • an annual healthy living payment to encourage staff to participate in a health and well being related activity
  • an invitation to join the firm's medical insurance group scheme
  • reimbursement for eyesight tests
  • study and graduation leave
  • flexible parental leave arrangements
  • matrimonial leave
  • subsidised legal advice for staff and their families.

Then there's the great social and sporting team opportunities, celebratory work team lunches and dinners, mid year and Christmas staff functions, Friday night drinks, fresh fruit in our staff cafeterias and participation at client and firm sponsored events – these are all part of the experience of working here.

Insider Profile

Jonathan Nicolle - Summer Clerk 2011/2012 - The best thing about spending a summer at Anderson Lloyd is experiencing the unique feel of a premier law firm which has a nationally significant profile at the same time as retaining the feel of a boutique firm. So I not only got to work on a range of interesting and significant projects, but was also treated like a respected and integral part of the team. Everyone was extremely friendly, professional, and always helpful when I had questions. Interspersed between research, meetings, and court attendances were fantastic Christmas parties, barbeques and other social events. If you want a truly worthwhile summer experience that is different to other firms, I strongly recommend you choose Anderson Lloyd.

Adam Cox – Summer Clerk 2011/2012 - I thoroughly enjoyed working at Anderson Lloyd as a summer clerk. The practical experience I gained will be invaluable as I continue with my legal career. The whole Anderson Lloyd team made my experience particularly rewarding. They are all easy to get on with and are very happy to help if you have any problems. Anderson Lloyd summer clerks are given the opportunity to perform useful and challenging legal work from day one, making you feel like part of the team. I had the opportunity to perform research and write opinions about a variety of interesting and important legal matters. I found the opportunity to meet with clients and talk about work I had undertaken for them to be particularly rewarding. On top of the work experiences, I also attended many Anderson Lloyd social functions including the Christmas party. Overall, a summer clerk position at Anderson Lloyd is a perfect way to gain real experience in the legal profession.

Jared McIntosh  - Summer Clerk 2011/2012 - Summer clerking at Anderson Lloyd was a truly rewarding way to spend a summer and a great experience. Everyone at the firm, from the support staff to the partners, was very approachable and went out of their way to make you feel welcome. The legal work was diverse and allowed me to utilise the skills I had learnt at university in researching tasks and drafting legal opinions and memos. Dunedin even surprised me with a summer of awesome weather after being accustomed to the often dreary winters. I would definitely recommend an Anderson Lloyd clerkship for anyone wanting to gain valuable career experience and see the what legal work entails in the "real world".

Nathan Watt - Summer Clerk 2011/2012 - Having the opportunity to summer clerk at Anderson Lloyd was a fantastic way to spend my summer months. What really struck me about Anderson Lloyd was the atmosphere that exists throughout the firm – absolute professionalism mixed with a laid back southern feel, something that you will not find anywhere else. During my time I had the opportunity to be involved in many ‘real world’ matters like settlements, registering companies, attending court, and high profile litigation disputes. The advice, insight and lessons I have learnt working alongside professionals who are extremely experienced, passionate and above all willing to help young staff grow and realise their potential is something that definitely stands out about my summer clerking experience
